The Gaylord resort is an extravagant getaway with equally extravagant costs. To say we were a little shocked at the multiple fees tacked onto the room would be an understatement. The resort is designed to offer a wide variety of activities throughout the day and well into the night. Some are included, such as the beautiful resort pool and nearby waterpark for overnight guests. The directions were unclear, and we ended up wandering around a bit trying to figure out where to go for the amenities. I will say the sunrise is beautiful coming through the glass dome ceiling. Those looking to stay at the resort will benefit from researching the available events throughout the year. The resort’s saving grace was the steakhouse, which went above and beyond to deliver an exceptional experience. The staff are very personable and quick to answer any questions you might have. They were kind enough to make me a pork belly wrap appetizer that was gluten-free and tasted amazing. Try as I might, I wasn’t able to finish the pork chop that was the best I’ve ever had. The cocktails are also excellent, but be sure to make your reservations in advance for this popular stop. All in all, it was an interesting experience but not to be repeated.

After leaving the resort, we headed downtown to historic Grapevine and checked out the shops. Armed with coffee and pie, we headed out, ending the weekend adventure on a high note.
